POIETO is built around one principle: your data belongs to you. We only take what you give, we only use it the way you've agreed to, and you can change your mind any time.
What we collect
What POIETO takes in — and what we don't
We collect
- What you make during the program
- What you choose to share with the group
- Your responses to program surveys (anonymous)
- Photos/video of your work — only at the level you consent to
- Your session check-ins and reflections, if you opt in
We do not collect
- Your real name (unless you choose to share it)
- Your address, phone number, or ID
- Anything you say outside of sessions
- Your activity on personal devices
- Anything through the chat tied to you as an individual
How it's used
What your data is and isn't used for
Program delivery
Running the program — planning sessions, tracking what's been made, responding to what the group needs. This is the primary use.
Reporting
We report to funders and partners on program outcomes — always aggregated (group totals), never individual. No one reads your specific answers.
POIETO research
Only if you say yes. We may ask separately if you'd like to contribute to POIETO's research on AI and creative practice. Opting out doesn't affect your participation.
AI training
Never without a separate, explicit ask. We do not use program data to train AI models unless you've specifically consented to that. This is always its own separate question.
Sharing / selling
Never. POIETO does not sell participant data. We do not share identifiable information with third parties outside your direct program context.
How consent works
How you give — and take back — consent
01
Consent is specific. Each type of use has its own ask. Agreeing to photos of your work doesn't mean agreeing to research. We don't bundle.
02
Consent happens every session. At the end of each session, we check in through the Pre-Consent Wallet — a quick review of what was collected today and whether you want it kept. You can revoke anything from any session at any time.
03
Consent is revocable. You can change your mind after you've said yes. Tell any program staff member, and it's done. We remove what you want removed.
04
Passing is always fine. There is no minimum level of consent required to participate. You can say no to everything and still be fully in the program.
Photos + video
Three levels — your choice
Work only
Photos of what you make — your artwork, your materials, your finished project. Never your face or identifying details.
Hands + work
Photos that show your hands in the process of making. Still no face, no name.
Full — face + name
Photos or video where you're identifiable. Requires explicit separate consent. You can specify which uses are okay (program only, POIETO website, press, etc.).
Age-specific rules
Additional protections by age
18 and over
Standard consent applies
You give your own consent for all data uses. You can modify or revoke any consent at any time. California residents have additional rights under CCPA (see Your Rights below).
Under 18
Parental or guardian consent required
For participants under 18, a parent or guardian must provide written consent before the program begins. This covers:
- All data collected during the program
- In-session chat participation (written consent on sign-in sheet, in addition to verbal opt-in)
- Photos and video at any level
Participants under 18 can still modify or revoke their own consent for individual sessions — with a parent/guardian's acknowledgment where required by the consent form.
Under 13: Programs serving participants under 13 operate under stricter COPPA requirements. No data collection without verifiable parental consent. In-session chat is not permitted for participants under 13. Separate policy addendum required.

What you can ask for — any time
›
See what we have. Ask for a summary of what POIETO has collected from your sessions.
›
Correct it. If something is wrong, we fix it.
›
Delete it. Ask us to remove data from any session. We will.
›
Take it back. Revoke any consent you've given — for any session, for any use type.
›
Take it with you. Ask for a copy of what you've made and contributed. It's yours.
